Movement as Medicine

A quiet moment of stillness by the sea.
A quiet moment of stillness by the sea.

The body isn't a machine. It's a landscape. Weather and seasons and terrain that shifts whether you ask it to or not. It has weather and seasons and terrain that changes with use and disuse. Movement is how we tend that landscape.

Movement is not medicine because it burns calories. It is medicine because it reminds us we are alive in a body that can still surprise us.

Three Forms of Movement That Changed My Life

  1. Pilates. Taught me core strength not as vanity but as stability. The ability to stand tall and lift without fear.
  2. Yoga. Taught me flexibility not as contortion but as release. The letting go of tension I did not know I carried.
  3. Walking. Taught me patience. The understanding that progress is slow and that slowness is not failure.

The Neuroscience

Movement affects mood. This is not speculation. It is neuroscience.
