Switzerland: Diary of the Peaks

Switzerland is vertical. That is the first thing you notice. The mountains do not rise gently. They erupt. They demand attention. They make you feel small in a way that is not humiliating but liberating.
The mountains do not care about your schedule. They simply exist, and in their existence, they teach patience.
Three Swiss Destinations
- Zermatt. Car-free. Narrow streets. Wooden buildings. And above everything, the Matterhorn. I watched the sunrise shift the peak from grey to pink to gold in twelve minutes.
- The Gornergrat. Twenty-nine peaks above four thousand metres visible from one vantage point. The air was thin. The silence was absolute.
- Lake Lucerne. Water so blue it seemed dyed. I took a steamer to Vitznau, where a cogwheel train climbs to the summit of Mount Rigi.
The Swiss Lesson
Switzerland is expensive. But what they do not tell you is that Switzerland is also generous. With beauty. With order. With the sense that human beings can build societies that work. I left with a lighter heart and a clearer mind.
- Luxury is not about consumption. It is about access.
- Aspiration is not about wanting more. It is about wanting better.
- Stillness is not emptiness. It is space.
